TIPPER (Maui, Hawaii)
---------------------
http://www.tippermusic.net

Back for his only show in BC this summer!

Tipper makes music for sound systems, with a diversity that ranges from bass fuelled electro-breaks, to hip-hop, to intricately programmed downtempo, to full orchestral compositions etc; music that demands to be played at high volumes to unleash their lethal potential. With a musical background in classical training, and listing influences from drum & bass, to hip-hop, to electronica, Tipper has created his own brand of devastating dancefloor bombs and after club ear-teasers. He is admired for being "streaks ahead," and his "expertly crafted" productions are dubbed as being "frightening yet refreshing, if it doesn't move you check for a pulse."

Although mostly known in the breakbeat scene, Tipper's output includes strong hints of electro and idm amongst other styles. He is known for his interest in extreme bass frequencies, with his releases often including lengthy subbass test tones at the end.

Tipper is also the owner of the loudest car in the world, a 10k sound system in a Dodge Challenger. He, and likeminded people from his label Fuel Records, have engaged in stunts like emptying a swimming pool, covering it with an acoustic canopy and enjoying the bass, or drowning out The Prodigy on the main stage of the V Festival with their car sound systems parked several miles away.

His ambient organic sounds blended with technologically borne beats and noises makes his music extremely psychedelic, this combined with exquisetely timed and cut scratching makes him one of the most complete electronic artists today, creating structures and textures that in some other contexts might be contrary and confusing, but fuse instead into a complex ,harmonious and sometimes dark structure that continues to push the envelope of modern composition .

LongwalkShortDock (Vancouver, BC)
--------------------------------------------------
http://www.myspace.com/longwalkshortdock

Longwalkshortdock esentially started the first time Dave King heard gritty electronic music in early eightys videogames. Strongly influenced by these sounds and melodys, Dave started recording and looping segments as a child. He also got a taste for sampling and recording; Taping segments of his piano practice to fool his parents into thinking he was practicing in the other room. Dave then noticed he was writting his profile in the third person......... After briefly considering the pretentious implications of doing this he decided to continue on with it. After the early years of video game loops, longwalkshortdock went through many years of musical genre infidelity and learned to play many instruments in many styles. After collecting gear, ideas, and collaborators, Dave decided to move from his home town of Calgary to Vancouver to take 2 degrees in sound production and recording.

Dave has worked in the studio and played live shows along side a host of talented artists such as : Alex Patterson (The Orb), Matt the Alien, Phil Western (Download, Kone, Beehatch) to name a few. Since then longwalkshortdock has been putting together a large body of work both for album release and for live use in the hopes of creating a positive ear related experience for "the people". Did you hear they found him in a cave on the moon? Thats what I heard... Dave then decided that was enough information in the Bio for the time being and decided to stop adding to it right in the middle of typ

Max Ulis - Lighta! (Vancouver, BC)
----------------------------------
http://www.myspace.com/maxtronic

I've been djing for about 10 years and producing for around four. I got into dubstep through my love of jungle, techno, and grime (electronic music in general), I did a grime weekly for about a year in Vancouver with a couple friends. At around the same time grime was kinda falling off for me I spent a little time in London and picked up a couple 12's like Coki "Officer", Vex'd "Lion" and got really excited about the sound. I started blending these darker elements into my set and about half the people loved and the other half hated it. This went on for some time until Michael Red asked me to become part of lighta! and things started getting more interesting. We were playing parties that had dancehall, jungle, dub, glitch and dubstep all on the same night and people were coming, and then alot of people were coming, and then all of a sudden we had a community. This community is what inspires me to make music.

I have been lucky enough to appear alongside the likes of The Mad Professor,Kode 9, Skream, Dj Vadim, The Bug, Bassnectar, Benga, Caspa, Hatcha, Loefah, Megasoid, Ghislain Poirier, Chefal, Starkey, Youngsta, Dj C, Filastine, Knifehandchop, Deadbeat, and the legendary Remarc.

Micheal Red (LIVE PA!) - Lighta! - (Vancouver, BC)
--------------------------------------------------
http://www.myspace.com/michael_red

MICHAEL RED is a music producer, performer, livePA artist, DJ, event producer, promoter, and curator. Originally from Halifax (NS) based out of Vancouver (BC) since '98, Michael's been doing it for a while now.

Michael DJ's and performs live in a decent handful of scenes and styles. Red residented Vancouver's longest running dancehall night BRUK OUT, continues to rock sold-out & capacity underground parties, and has played alongside a lengthy list of international talent in both dubstep and jungle realm's. As the founding member and the key event-thrower begin LIGHTA! SOUND, Michael's played a pivotal role in shaping the now thriving dubstep and bass scene in Vancity. Spreading the sound beyond Vancouver and setting the standard high.

Michael is also known for his musical collaboration with acclaimed inuit throat singer TANYA TAGAQ. Playing shows across Canada, US & Europe, improvising with electronics and dubbing out Tanya's vocals with Ableton Live - leaving many audience's breathless and usually a good handful in tears. (look out for the new album, soon enough)

SOUNS is an "ambient/etc." project from Michael Red. The words "ambient/etc." are used to describe sounds ranging from hyper-minimal tones and pure textures up to soundscapes supported by dub bass-lines and quiet rhythms. Souns takes roots in the elemental songs of water, wood, wind, fire, metal, dreamtime and the unseen world. The message is of light and evolution.

Souns live performances weave pre-programmed structures with live looping and processing of bells, chimes, glockenspiel, trumpet, samples, the immediate environment, found objects, field recordings, static and hiss. There is a heavy improvisational element to Souns live and recorded works, largely guided by an emptied mind and an open channel.

----------------------------------------
http://www.beatswithoutborders.com/dj_nils.php

Nils has been connecting with and guiding Dance Floors in BC and around the world since the early 90's. In that time he has played at hundreds of events and has been on the same bill with such DJ luminaries as Cheb i Sabbah, Toby Marks, Adham Shaikh, Shakatura, and Bluetech. He's as happy playing Reggae at Sunset as he is playing Deep Ethno-ambient at Sunrise.

Aside from being a DJ he is also an event organizer, with the legendary "Faeries & Fools" Costume Carnival on the Sunshine Coast being his signature event. He is a Sagitarius, a mystic raconteur, and a founding member of the Beats Without Borders Collective.
