Culture Jamming
facilitators: Brian Williams and Mark Piron.
Everyday, we are confronted with corporate advertising that seeks to alter our
perceptions of the world. Sometimes it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and dis-
empowered by this form of manipulation, these attempts to convince us that
happiness is a commodity to be bought. Thankfully there are some ways to
openly critique these messages and to create your own dialogue in public space
- in creative, liberating, and potentially hilarious ways.
This workshop will be on and about the use of non-violent Culture Jamming
techniques as a way to actively critique our everyday environment. It will have
both a socio/political and artistic flavour. We will be sharing our experience of
using such techniques, revealing some tricks of the trade, and telling some
stories about past successes and failures. Topics will include activist security
culture, urban ninja techniques and jedi mind tricks. Those with and without
experience in this field are encouraged to attend so that we can exchange ideas
and inspiration.

Pass the Dance Contact Jam
facilitator: Sharon
In "pass the dance", there are 2 bracelets -the dancer's bracelet. The whole jam
is in silence, all participants who are present sit in a circle to witness and support
the process when not dancing. 2 dancers begin the dance, wearing the
bracelet.... the dance is "passed" on as the bracelet is passed on...
At any given time, you can come out of the circle to join the dance, by "asking"
for the bracelet from one of the dancers or each dancer can dance to anyone in
the circle to "pass" the bracelet onto that person.... the duration of each dance
with each pair of dancers is completely open until the "passing" happens. But
The dance can not stop and will be passed on continouously for the entire period
of time we set out for.

Aromatherapy
facilitator: Pamela
I will introduce some of the more common Essential Oils and discuss their
healing properties, what they are good for and how to use them. Then I plan to
have each participant make a Sea Salt body scrub to take away with them.
These are glorious for skin softening, toxin removal and just all over
yumminess!
I advocate the use of essential oils as a natural therapeutic healing agent that
can help our tribal community deal with many health issues. They can be used as
an alternative to chemical concoctions for things such as headaches, burns and
scrapes, body aches, as an aid to concentration, easing anxiety attacks,
relaxation and so much more. Essential oils can be used for kids but I don't know
that this workshop would be suited for pre-teens or pregnant women (without
prior notification to the facilitator).

Elysium Circle
facilitator: Sobey and Co.
The Elysium Circle returns again for Intention 2003. Last years was well attended
so we move to a larger space this time.
The Elysium Circle formed in 1998 @ the Hive in the Republic of East Van as a
close knit peer-support group for navigating the nebulous zone of millenium love
outside of the traditional. Since then the circle has taken place twice @ the
Vortex in East Van and most recently at Intention 2002. Other related work has
been the Harmony Circle bringing together men and women circles back into a
whole joining with the gender reconcilliation movement. These began at the
Launch Pad and was last performed in the Elaho @ Quan Yin last summer.
The intention of the circle is to create safe space for exploring the patterns in our
relating and the maps that are available from traditions of the ancients to the new
paradigms being sprung from desire liberated. Examples of the paradigms
include modern sacred sexuality, conscious loving and polyamory.
We will be welcoming all orientations in an atmosphere of respect and shared
intent to support those who are embracing new forms of loving in their lives. All
boundaries will be respected and protected.
For this circle we will be examing parts from The Ethical Slut,A Guide to Infinite
Sexual Possibilities by Dossie Easton & Catherine A. Liszt. Discussions and
exercises are the main workings of the circle.
