intention 8.5 faq:

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Is this thing kid-friendly or what?
Most definitely! We have a couple of organizers specifically watching over arts and crafts and kids games possibilities (NOT providing 24/7 childcare!) There will be children there of all ages, and more are definitely welcome!

Q: How much is this gonna cost me?
It is $70 for the whole weekend or part thereof ($35 for kids 6-12, kids 5 and under are free). Subsidy requests are now closed. Saturday Night Party Only tickets are available at the gate on Saturday night for $40 (arrive after 8pm, leave by 12noon the next day).
Q: Does that include food?
No it does not. It is very difficult to try to feed large numbers of people in the woods in a safe and hearty manner that is acceptable to all tastes. The Intention retreats over NYE are easier because they are in a kids camp that has a kitchen and is used to feeding large numbers, that's why food is included then. You should bring all the food you need, and if you intend to cook it, try to bring a camping stove, or share with a friend! There is a covered communal kitchen area (with soapy dishwater and level countertops) where you can set up stoves and cook in small groups, this is what we recommend. There are also going to be a few food vendors on site but there is no guarantee that they will have enough food to feed everyone for three days and may run out.

Q: Where do we sleep?
In a tent! Unless you want to chance it sleeping under the stars (which will be fine if the weather cooperates)... then bring a tent! Plenty of tenting is available. See the site map here.

Q: What about water?
There is water on site that is suitable for washing or dishes, but it comes from a creek that is a bit muddy right now and doesn't look exactly clean. You could chance it and drink it (with or without GSE) but we do NOT recommend this! You should bring in all the water you need for the weekend. Roberts Creek is only five miles away and if you need to find someone with a bike or vehicle and go on a food or water run during the day, this is totally an option.

Q: Can I come up just for the Saturday night party?
Yes! As long as you arrive after 8pm on Saturday, and leave by 12noon the next day! (tickets are $20 at the gate)

Q: Can I do a work trade instead of paying?
Well, yes and no. This is a co-created event and we hope that everybody will pitch in and help at some point, regardless of whether they paid or not (and based on prior history of seven other Intentions, people often feel motivated to help once they are there). If you have asked for a subsidy, then on a karmic level you may feel more inclined to pitch in and help, though this is not a requirement. The only way to get 100% subsidy is to work as a Greeter (ie: door person) and at this point all of those positions are filled.

Q: Where exactly is Crystal Creek, and how do I get there?
Crystal Creek is approximately five miles up the side of Mount Elphinstone, measured from Roberts Creek Hall on the Sunshine Coast. Assuming that you are coming from the lower Mainland (or through there, from parts further away), you can take a ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale (ferry schedule - click here) either as a foot passenger, with bike, or in a vehicle. From there, use your mode of transport (foot passengers take the Sunshine Coast bus, drivers take Hwy 101 West) to Roberts Creek Hall (approx. 25 minutes by car, 40 by bus), and then turn right on Roberts Creek Road (ie: up the hill). From there, follow the signs to the SummerCamp.

Q: How can I get involved in helping organize or in doing actual work, if I feel so inclined?
Once you are on the site if you are in a volunteering mood, find one of the organizers (ask at the gate or one of the kitchen supervisors, if you don't know who the organizing core are by now) and they will find out if there is something you can help with at that time.

Q: How do I register for this thing?

Online registration is now closed, but you can just drive up and register/pay at the gate.

Q: Can I just pay at the door?
Yes. If you must go this route, we suggest that you show up Friday when the gate opens at 4:20!

Q: What exactly are these workshops?
The deadline for registering a workshop has already passed. As for attending any workshop, they are included in your ticket price, no pre-registration necessary. A finalized schedule of workshops will be available at the camp.

Q: If you aren't feeding us, where does the $70 per person go?
Venue costs, sound system, decor, lighting, infrastructure, sanitation, supplies, first aid, generators, the subsidy fund... a full budget can be made available to those that want to see it (email us). We are totally transparent in how our finances operate for our events.
